The department educates experts in the field of Applied Mechanics with a focus on the field of applied construction mechanics. The main emphasis is placed on the theoretical analysis, development and creation of computational models of building constructions, their solution with modern computational methods and experimental study of these constructions with the application of progressive diagnostic methods.
At the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Department of Geodesy provides courses in geodesy and cartography, engineering structures and traffic structures, construction and earthworks. At the Institute of Alpine Biology, it provides courses in the field of Wildlife rangers (Stráž prírody).
The department provides teaching of geological and geotechnical subjects - geology, engineering geology, hydromechanics and hydrology, geomechanics, soil mechanics and foundation structures, underground structures and elective subjects.
The department provides teaching of subjects: construction materials, construction chemistry, material engineering, steel and concrete structures, steel and concrete bridges, wooden structures and bridges, masonry structures, diagnostics, maintenance and reconstruction of building structures and bridges, semester projects from concrete and metal structures and bridges, studio creation and automation of engineering works.
The department educates experts on the needs of road construction. Road management in subjects focused on the design process (including the use of specialized software) and traffic engineering (traffic surveys and forecasts, assessment of the capacity of roads and intersections, traffic modelling and simulation), on the environmental aspect of construction and traffic operations (noise, emissions), for the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of roads, diagnosis and management of roads.
The department provides a significant part of the educational activities in the bachelor's and engineering study program in civil engineering and the doctoral study program Theory and Structures of Buildings. The team of the department also participates in educational activities in other bachelor's, engineering and doctoral study programs of the faculty in subjects focused on architecture, urban planning, service networks and construction of buildings.
The Department of Technology and Management educates experts in the field of construction technology, management and economics of construction, investment process, testing, quality management and administration management.
The department provides teaching subjects with the necessary information about railway construction. The department's scientific research activity is focused on applying scientific knowledge in specific conditions of railway operations.
