The department provides teaching of subjects: construction materials, building chemistry, material engineering, steel and concrete structures, steel and concrete bridges, timber structures and bridges, masonry structures, diagnostics, maintenance and reconstruction of building structures and bridges, semester projects from concrete and steel structures and bridges, studio work and automation of engineering works. In scientific research activities, it focuses on research of the actual behaviour of steel and concrete bridge structures in operation, diagnostics of failures and degradation factors. Within the framework of cooperation with practice, the department performs expert, assessment and consulting activities.
