The Department of Building Structures and Bridges was established in 1980 by merging the Department of Building Structures and the Department of Bridges. However, both departments were found at the Railway University in Prague in 1953 as profile departments of the then Faculty of Civil Engineering. The department teaches the theory of building structures, such as metal, concrete, wooden, and masonry structures. In its scientific research activities, the department focuses on research into the actual impact of metal and concrete building structures and bridges and problems related to the evaluation of existing building structures and bridges.
