Prof. Ing. Ladislav Bitterer, PhD: Geodesy
Internal teaching text of the Department of Geodesy for bachelor students of Geodesy and Cartography and students of Civil Engineering disciplines. Obsah.
Preface to the fifth edition
Geodesy is intended for bachelor students of the Geodesy and Cartography program and for students of civil engineering disciplines at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Žilina in Žilina.
The content of this teaching text in some chapters exceeds the scope of the syllabus of the course Geodesy. I assume that students will select from the text what fits the profile of their field of study. What I consider to be beyond that scope may be useful for those who work in practice.
The Geodesy text in this electronic version is intended not only for students but also for anyone who works in the field of geodesy, is interested in it, and has access to the Internet.
I have been continuously improving and updating the current form of the Geodesy text over a long period. I expect to continue doing so.
I would like to thank the reviewers of previous editions of these lecture notes: Prof. Ing. Vlastimil Staněk, PhD. from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, and Ing. Slavoj Kádner, CSc., now retired, as well as members of the Department of Geodesy at our faculty—namely Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jaroslav Šíma, CSc. and Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jozef Štubňa, CSc.—and also our assistants for their patience in working with previous editions of the notes and for pointing out errors they found in them.
Further, I thank Mrs. Anna Weissová for drawing the illustrations and typing the manuscript. I thank my daughter Alena for the thorough proofreading and language editing. Without their help, this teaching aid would not have come into being, nor would it have its present form.
This Geodesy text is not subject to enforceable copyright restrictions. I make it available to everyone interested in geodesy and wishing to learn something about it or refresh their forgotten knowledge. The text may be printed, copied, freely reproduced, and stored on a computer disk. May this text be useful to everyone interested in geodesy.
