Focus of professional activity
- The department's professional activities are focused on solving practical problems. It is mainly oriented towards cooperation with the Slovak Road Administration and the National Highway Company. The content of professional activities mainly includes the following areas.
- Construction production and construction materials technologies . Diagnostics and evaluation of deformation and fatigue characteristics of viscoelastic and composite materials, using a pulsation device for measuring the complex modulus of elasticity. Definition, calculations and optimization of the life cycle. Reducing the energy intensity of production and operation of materials and structures, innovation and recycling of construction materials and non-traditional materials based on modified binders. Management and control of construction production and construction processes based on project management systems and investment construction management, construction process risk management. Optimization of technological variants of construction production. Quality management of construction materials and construction activities, testing, reliability of construction structures. Building Information Modelling /BIM/ simulations of intelligent models and information databases within the processes of investment preparation, project documentation, time functions and economic efficiency of investment projects.
- Optimization of road management and decision-making systems for the modernization and maintenance of transport structures using asset management and management methods /Asset Management/ and pavement management systems /Pavement Management System/. Road diagnostics and definition of operational capability based on variable parameter evaluation criteria using RD devices - digital video, GPS, 2D Laser scanner - 3-dimensional road surface model and 3D accelerometer - dynamic vehicle diagnostics. Defining optimization models for the modernization of the road network and road structures based on life cycle calculations of building structures /Life Cycle Cost Analyses/ and revenue analyses within the framework of economic efficiency. Modeling the development of degradation functions of variable road parameters /Pavement Performance Modelling/ using equipment for accelerated road testing /issued utility model/
- Safety of transport infrastructure within the framework of operation management and risk management of motorway tunnels, predictive models of operation and management in tunnels using the unique Tunnel Management Simulator (SRT). Simulations of smoke and fire spread in the tunnel tube based on computer simulation of selected types of fires and their analysis with experiments and in situ measurements. Applications of safety systems in operation management and creation of a database of records of extraordinary tunnel events and their evaluation.
