Duration: January 2021 – December 2023

Current study programs are usually focused to model, design and partly also the execution of engineering structures including bridges. Beside these main but short term activities in comparison to the long- time serviceability, particularly of bridges, management systems and maintenance strategies are very important actions from point of view of the life-cycle performance of these systems to serve the needs of society during required long-time durability. In recognition of the need of this practice, the principal aim of the presented project is to enhance actual learning practice by introduction of an innovative field of study oriented to the advanced technologies, prediction and optimisation of structural management and maintenance, especially various types of bridges. Continually growing knowledge produced by research, developments and applications is intended to be summarized in a book. It will include continuing loads specifications development, experimental methods, practical applications in the area of bridge assessment and evaluation, construction design for durability, decision-making, deterioration modelling and aging, failure analysis, field testing, structural health monitoring, inspection and diagnostics, life-cycle analysis, maintenance strategies, management systems, structural safety and reliability, rehabilitation, repair, replacement, strengthening and whole life costing. This book is intended to be used in graduate and postgraduate courses. Defining the current state of practice, it can be useful for an audience of researchers, practitioners with background in civil engineering.
