REGIAMOBIL benefits from already established good practices from different Interreg Central Europe operations (RUMOBIL, SubNodes, Shareplace and Connect2CE) as well as HORIZON 2020 actions (MaaS4EU, SIADE, MoTiV, ELVITEN). Moreover, it combines downstreaming and upstreaming transfer and integration of found solutions for mobility services in rural regions.

Maintaining and improving public transport in rural areas against the backdrop of demographic changes (ageing population, migration to cities) is a major challenge. The aim of providing attractive public transport even in remote areas contrasts sharply with the need to reassess the efficiency of services and the general interest in areas where the population is constantly decreasing. Especially for young people, the lack of adequate transport services is a key problem when they have to decide whether to stay or leave the countryside where they were born. Inadequate transport services have been identified as a factor contributing to the migration of young people from rural areas. It is necessary to change the approach to this problem and to support transport services for young people. For this reason, the project supports and promotes public transport for young people through new measures and solutions.

SKILLFUL vision is to identify the skills and competences needed by the Transport workforce of the future and define the training methods and tools to meet them. For all the above trends, employability will be strongly connected by SKILLFUL to future transport job requirements for all transportation modes and multimodal chains (which constitute a key transport of the future trend) and for all levels/types of workers, while all training modes will be included and integrated in a balanced way. To achieve this, SKILLFUL aims to review the existing, emerging and future knowledge and skills requirements of workers at all levels in the transportation sector, to structure the key specifications and components of the curricula and training courses that will be needed to meet these competence requirements optimally and to identify and propose new business roles in the education and training chain, such as those of “knowledge aggregator”, “training certifier” and training promoter”, in order to achieve European wide competence development. Project results are verified through s wide number of Pilots with low to high skilled workers from all transportation modes Europewide.

The main objective of RUMOBIL is to improve public transport in rural areas by better connecting them to the national and European transport networks. Quicker and more comfortable access by public transport positively contributes to the quality of life in rural areas and supports business activities there. To that aim, a set of evidence-based policy recommendations will be elaborated to improve the capacities of local and regional decision-makers responsible for the design and coordination of public passenger transport in Central European regions affected by demographic change.
